Student Transfer Requests

Student Transfer Information

In Leander ISD, we believe students receive a quality education regardless of the campus they attend; however, we understand there are circumstances when a parent may desire for their child to attend a school other than the campus they are currently assigned. Please review the following information regarding the type of transfer available and the application process for 2019-2020.

Student Transfer Application

At this time, all LISD campuses are closed for new student transfer requests.

Schools Open / Closed for Transfer Requests for the 2019-20 School Year

All campuses are now closed to transfers for the 2019–2020 school year. Transfer information for the 2020–2021 school year will be shared during the Spring 2020 semester.

In-district Transfer Requests

Voluntary Parent Choice Transfers

This type of transfer is for students who:

  • live within the boundaries of Leander ISD; and
  • request a transfer to a school not assigned to the student’s place of residence.

Please read the following information regarding a voluntary transfer:

  • All voluntary parent choice student transfer applications are assessed a $30.00 processing fee that must be paid prior to the review of the transfer application.
    • Students participating in the federal free lunch program are not assessed a processing fee.
    • Students participating in the federal reduced-price lunch program are assessed a $10 processing fee.
  • The fee is non-refundable and does not guarantee the transfer request will be approved.
  • Students must be in good academic, behavior and attendance standing at their home campus to qualify for a Voluntary Parent Choice Transfer.
  • If the transfer is approved, students must maintain good academic, behavior, and attendance standing or the approved transfer may be revoked requiring the student to return to their home campus.
  • If the transfer is approved, Voluntary Parent Choice Transfers are NOT eligible for district provided transportation.

Reverse Moratorium for Larkspur Elementary

Transfers out of Larkspur Elementary will not be granted unless the student will be in 5th grade for the 2019-2020 year. A 5th grade student may request a transfer to remain at the current campus. Siblings of a 5th grade student may also apply for a transfer to remain at the current campus.

Program Transfer Requests

This type of transfer is for students who:

  • request to attend a school with a specific program offered at the transfer campus which is not available at the student’s zoned home campus. All program transfers must be approved by the appropriate department and campus.

Please read the following information regarding a program transfer:

  • The only program currently open to transfer requests is the IB Programme at Leander HS and Vandegrift HS.
    • Cedar Park HS students may request a transfer to either Leander HS or Vandegrift HS for the IB Programme.
    • Glenn HS, Rouse HS and Vista Ridge HS students may request a transfer to Leander HS for the IB Programme.
  • The processing fee of $30.00 does not apply when the program is not offered at the student’s home campus.

Students requesting a transfer for the programs listed below should contact the campus registrar of the student's home (zoned) campus. That campus registrar will process the transfer application.

  • PSLP – Preschool Speech & Language Program
  • ELL – English Language Learners
  • ELE/SLE – Early Learning Environment / Structured Learning Environment
  • LEIP – Language Enrichment Intervention Program
  • IB PYP (Primary Years Programme) at Grandview Hills and Mason elementary schools.
  • DLE – Dual Language Enrichment Program

New Students to LISD desiring a transfer

This type of transfer is for students who:

  • new to Leander ISD;

Please read the following information regarding a new student transfer:

  • Students new to Leander ISD in the 2019-2020 school year must first register at their assigned home campus or at the district administration office before applying for a transfer.

A transfer request may be submitted once registration at the assigned home campus is complete.

Out-of-district Transfer Requests

High School Transfers

Student transfers may be revoked for lack of academic progress, lack of attendance, misconduct or because the student is no longer participating in an eligible program for which the student initially transferred.

UIL Eligibility

Students transferring between high schools within Leander ISD will lose one calendar year of eligibility for sub-varsity and varsity athletics, meaning student athletes not attending their zoned high school must “sit out” of sports for one calendar year to establish eligibility. At this time, transferring students involved in all other UIL activities will be eligible immediately.

* There are extremely limited exceptions to this policy. To read them, please refer to the Student Transfer Guidelines link on the district's Athletics page or call the LISD Athletic Department with any questions at 512-570-0170.
